Dinosaurs WERE wiped out by an asteroid crashing into Earth
Some believe they were killed off by massive volcanoes, others that they were a victim of prehistoric climate change.
Now a major study claims to have conclusive proof that dinosaurs were wiped out within weeks of an asteroid the size of the Isle of Wight slamming into the Earth.
Researchers say the impact sent a vast flume of dust into the atmosphere 65 million years ago, unleashed a torrent of powerful earthquakes and triggered forest fires across North America, blocking out the sun and wiping out half of all species.The panel of 41 international experts - including British researchers from Cambridge, Imperial College and the University of London - looked at 20 years of research to settle the long-running debate about what killed the dinosaurs.

King Tutankhamun died from broken leg made worse by malaria
Scientists have finally discovered how King Tutankhamun died, nearly a century after the boy-pharaoh's tomb was unearthed in Egypt.
A DNA study revealed today the 19-year-old died from complications from a broken leg that was exacerbated by malaria.
It also found the famous king suffered from a cleft palate and club foot and was a 'frail king who needed canes to walk.'

Towering kite-shaped airships could herald a new era of luxury transport following today's introduction of the Aircruise concept.
Standing 98 feet taller than Canary Wharf, packing 330,000 cubic metres of hydrogen gas and capable of lifting 396 tonnes, the Aircruise concept features penthouse apartments, bars and even dizzying glass viewing floors.
Aircruise was created as the antithesis of a hurried, crowded passenger jet. London-based design and innovation company Seymourpowell wanted to rethink transport - on the premise 'slow is the new fast'.

2 Feb. Nasa picture suggests Dubai globe is sinking back into the seaThis is how the world looks like according to ambitious engineers in Dubai, but it is starting to look rather ragged around the edges.
The stunning image of the man-made archipelago was taken by an astronaut far above our Earth on the International Space Station.
It shows the World Islands development (on the right), sitting in shallow waters just off Dubai's coast.

Billionaire Sir Richard Branson may already own an airline, a record label, a mobile phone company, several luxury restaurants and a Caribbean island. But today the entrepreneur unveiled his latest toy - an underwater plane.
The £415,000 prototype submersible is called the Necker Nymph and can dive to depths of up to 130ft. Sir Richard hopes to one day explore depths of 35,000ft - which is far more than the height of Mount Everest.

Volcano-chaser braves some of Earth's most dangerous situations to capture amazing photos of violent eruptions

Most people would think themselves unlucky if they passed a volcano as it erupted, but this counts as a good day at the office for one photographer.
Martin Rietze is part of a select group of volcano-chasers who seek out the exploding phenomena, and braves huge electric storms and boiling lava to get the perfect shots.

'Like science fiction': Astronauts awe-struck by gleaming International Space Station
Glowing in the sunlight, this is the latest stunning shot of the International Space Station, taken from the shuttle Endeavour as it came in to dock.
Astronaut Stephen Robinson was awe-struck when he drew close to the space station, during Endeavour's approach from below.
'To look up and see what humankind could really accomplish in space was just almost impossible to believe. It seemed like science fiction,' he said. 12 feb.

TVs around the world could go on the blink during the 2012 London Olympics, solar physicists warned today.
They were speaking ahead of the launch of the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which will blast off on February 9.

Haplocheirus sollers lived 15 million years before the first flying bird, Archaeopteryx, and supports the theory that birds evolved independently from bird-like dinosaurs.
